The Department of Visual Cultures is pleased to welcome Bernadette Krejs for a roundtable discussion open to the public on Monday, 5.12.2022 at 18:00. The Roundtable discussion will take place in seminar room AC0440 at the Technical University Campus at Karlsplatz, and will be joined by Carmen Hines, Marlene Wagner and Jerome Becker.

In this seminar/workshop we search for another vocabulary of missing words, spaces and imaginaries for new beginnings in times of crises. The home as complex space of recovery, intimacy, (care)work but also place of conflict, resistance and power structures, is the scene for our observation. We are exploring aesthetic practices of spatial reproduction within the concept of drawing otherwise, as a critical activist embodied practice for a counter-hegemonic image production. This form of activism (drawing) moves away from an architecture practice which has the idea of solving challenges of today with even more optimized, saleable (concrete) buildings and thereby limiting the possibilities of diversity, resistance, and community in housing. The critical act of drawing is an active intervention that makes dependencies visible, questions working and production processes of architecture and displays the extraction and exploitation of the environment. Counter-hegemonic imaginaries are moment of questioning dominant principles in existing conditions, this questioning means becoming active through drawing other stories and narratives. The seminar/workshop it not about a static image knowledge, it is about a collective drawing practice which generates an archive, a laboratory or a breeding ground for scenarios of new beginnings. A wild atlas of possible futures how we want to live together and whose histories are drawn by many.
